Each of us, in our daily lives, face trials and obstacles that sometimes seem larger than we can handle. Learning about brittle bones, Osteoporosis and changing directions in life have been mine. I continue to ride almost daily and each day I am thankful to know the affection of Blizzard. There are no words that can describe fully, how attentive he is to me. He is leary of moving when I ride without a saddle and if he feels I am not balanced he will stop and stand until I show him that I am okay. His fear of my falling is ever present. I continually reassure him with my voice and touch.
I also continue to fill my diet with calcium rich foods and trace minerals that nourish and battle the bone density loss. It is with much joy that I say my recent bone scan showed only 6/10ths of a percent of bone loss in one hip, with no change in the other and a 1/10th INCREASE, yes, I said increase, in the lumbar spine. This is a long way from the 2.6 percent of loss that showed just a year before. I am not claiming victory, but I am more inspired than ever to keep on course.
I do not consume any type of synthetic or prescribed medication at this time. I opted for my own self care and take in hydroxyappatite (natures purest calcium) along with a daily regimen of minerals and vitamins. No, I don't have handfuls of pills to choke down, the vitamins are not so overwhelming that they ever fill a handful. Even if they did, I would still make it happen.
It's about my future, my daughters future and my quality of life. I plan on riding and performing for years to come and vow to never be a burden to anyone, especially those I love the most.
